HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF NON-WORKING DAYS IN JANUARY

The year 2026 begins with an extended weekend, as the first non-working days fall on Thursday and Friday. This means that many citizens of Republika Srpska will enter the new year with four consecutive days off, since January 1 and 2 are followed by the weekend.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF NON-WORKING DAYS IN JANUARY

If the holiday calendar remains the same as last year — which is almost certain — the next public holidays arrive very soon, on January 6 and 7, marking Christmas Eve and Orthodox Christmas.

These are followed by the Day of Republika Srpska on January 9, opening the possibility for citizens to combine up to nine consecutive days off at the very beginning of the new year.

Of course, this option depends on having January 5 and 6 off as well, either as non-working days or by using annual leave for those dates.

The series of January holidays does not end there. As in previous years, January 14 is also expected to be a non-working day. On this date, Republika Srpska celebrates the New Year according to the Julian calendar, also known as the Serbian New Year.

With careful planning, January 2026 offers an excellent opportunity for longer rest, travel, or quality time with family at the very start of the year.
