A recent archaeological discovery confirms the significance of this area during antiquity—a Roman bronze coin from the 4th century AD has been found in Nevesinje, highlighting the strong influence of the Roman Empire on this region.

According to the Tourist Organization of Nevesinje, the coin belonged to Emperor Constantius II, the son of the renowned Constantine the Great, and was minted in Siscija (modern-day Sisak).

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of the emperor, while the reverse depicts two Roman soldiers with a military standard adorned with Christ’s monogram (Χ R), a symbol representing the early Christian influence within the Roman army.

This coin stands as yet another testament to the long and turbulent history of Nevesinje, which has served as an important cultural and military hub throughout the centuries. Roman remains, medieval monuments, and a rich folk heritage make this region a valuable site for historical exploration and preservation.
