In Han Pijesak, construction work has resumed on the second phase of the reconstruction of Villa Karadjordjević, with an estimated value of 1,635,200 KM excluding VAT. The work is expected to be completed within the next six months, weather permitting, according to Nataša Gavrilović, the Head of the Department for Development Management, Economy, Finance, and Social Activities.
Gavrilović added that the contractor, “Jokić - invest” from
Zvornik, began work earlier this week. The second phase involves the
construction and roofing of the building. The third phase will include the
installation of the facade and windows.
Gavrilović reminded that the first phase of the
reconstruction was completed during the last construction season, with a cost
of around 635,000 KM.
The Mayor of Han Pijesak, Slobodan Đurić, previously stated
that the reconstruction of the building is of great significance to the
residents of this local community. Han Pijesak is located on a transit route
leading to popular tourist destinations such as the Adriatic Sea and Jahorina,
with the Igrišta Ski Center nearby.
He noted that many tourists pass through daily and will now have the opportunity to rest, dine, and enjoy the natural beauty of the area, located at an altitude of 1,100 meters, with air rich in ozone and untouched natural landscapes—a true rarity in Europe.
According to Đurić, the summer residence of King Alexander
Karadjordjević, known locally as Villa Karadjordjević, is the only royal
residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Damaged by wartime events and neglect, the
villa will be restored to its original state as it appeared in 1922 and 1923
when it was first opened in Han Pijesak.
He added that it will serve as an open-type hospitality
facility with accommodation, contributing to the development of tourism and the
economy on the Romanija plateau.
