With a series of events, the University of Banja Luka is celebrating 49 years of its establishment and work. The main event, a formal academic ceremony, is planned for tomorrow at the Cultural Center Banski Dvor in Banja Luka.
In honor of this anniversary, numerous events are scheduled through the end of the year, including graduation ceremonies for bachelor’s and master’s students across various faculties, as well as scientific conferences and gatherings.
Nearly five decades since its founding, the University of Banja Luka, with 17 faculties and an Academy of Arts, has developed ideal conditions for studying a wide range of scientific fields. This is reflected in the university's significant rise on the Webometrics global ranking, advancing over 2,000 places in the last eight years.
Speaking on Radio Srpska, Rector Radoslav Gajanin emphasized that improving the university’s staff and infrastructure remains a core goal. In the near future, construction of a science and technology park within the university grounds is set to begin, with plans for this project already presented.
"I believe that in the coming years, we will have the opportunity to establish the first science and technology park in Republika Srpska, right here in Banja Luka. Our long-term plan is to relocate all faculties, except the Faculty of Medicine, to the University Campus," Gajanin explained.
In response to market demands, the university aims to introduce new study programs. Interior design and landscape architecture are two newly added programs, meeting practical needs within these fields.
"We will continue to update study programs to match the competencies that students need upon graduation. The skills that students acquired in the past are not the same as those they gain now, as today’s competencies are enhanced," Gajanin told Radio Srpska.
The University of Banja Luka was established on November 7, 1975. Initially, it included the faculties of Electrical Engineering, Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Law, and Economics, along with three higher education schools. The university became fully integrated in January 2008, bringing all faculties under one unified administration.
