Sculptor Dragan Radenović, a member of the Russian Academy of Arts, has gifted his sculpture dedicated to Nikola Tesla to the authorities of Tatarstan, who have chosen to place this monument to the great scientist in the tech city of Innopolis, near Kazan.
Radenović explained that the sculpture represents one of the world’s most renowned scientists and inventors of Serbian origin—Nikola Tesla. "He is comfortably seated in the open space on dense layers of ether, deeply absorbed in reading Philosophiae Naturalis, a work by mathematician and physicist Ruđer Bošković," Radenović shared.
He added that his inspiration came from a famous photograph taken by the legendary writer Ernest Hemingway in Tesla’s Colorado Springs laboratory, showcasing the scientist’s focus and intellectual depth during the writer’s visit.
Deputy Minister of Culture of Tatarstan, Damir Natfulin, expressed that the monument to Tesla would be best placed near Kazan, in the modern IT city of Innopolis. Innopolis, a symbol of Russia’s technological advancement, is home to one of the country’s most progressive universities and a special economic zone for implementing IT innovations.
Natfulin highlighted Tesla’s monumental contributions to modern technology: "Tesla, as the inventor of alternating current, made invaluable contributions to electrical engineering and radio technology. Without his work, contemporary technology would be unimaginable.
Placing his monument in Innopolis would have great symbolic significance."
He added that this tribute to Tesla, who was of Serbian heritage, could further strengthen Serbian-Russian relations.
Dragan Radenović is known for many notable works, including memorials for figures such as Slobodan Milošević, Vitaly Churkin (a tribute to his family in the Vladimir region), and Steve Jobs at Apple’s headquarters.
