In celebration of its 70th anniversary, the Central Cultural and Artistic Association (CKUD) "Lepa Radić" held a ceremonial assembly in Gradiška. The event highlighted the organization's seven-decade journey, during which awards were presented to distinguished organizations and individuals for their contributions to the association’s development, preservation of Lepa Radić’s legacy, and achievements in the field of culture and amateur art.
As a tribute, attendees laid flowers at the bust of national heroine Lepa Radić in the Freedom Memorial Park. Born on December 19, 1925, Radić was declared a national hero on December 20, 1951. This annual tradition also includes a commemorative concert, with this year’s performance titled "Dance Brought Us Together," scheduled for December 21 and dedicated to the jubilee celebration.
Historian Rajko Kuzmanović, in his book "The History of Bosanska Gradiška and Its Surroundings," notes that CKUD "Lepa Radić" was originally established in 1954 under the name KUD "Braća Ribar" Bosanska Gradiška. The association’s growth mirrored the city’s development, undergoing a significant transformation in 1963 when it was renamed in honor of Lepa Radić. A major reorganization in 1973 further solidified its role in the cultural and artistic scene of Gradiška and its surroundings.
The 1980s marked a period of growth for the organization, fueled by improved working conditions following its relocation to a newly constructed Cultural Center.
This period of success lasted until 1992, when activities were suspended due to external circumstances. After several attempts, the association’s revival was finally achieved in 2013, ending more than two decades of dormancy.
Since its renewal, CKUD "Lepa Radić" has demonstrated remarkable progress, reclaiming its position as a vital cultural force in the region. Today, it stands as Gradiška's oldest active cultural association, boasting over 650 members and holding the distinction of being the largest organization of its kind in Republika Srpska. Its extensive membership, quality performances, and diverse activities have earned it the trust of its members and recognition from the broader community.
This year’s milestone celebration saw CKUD "Lepa Radić" receiving the "Njegoš Order" from the President of Republika Srpska, a Certificate of Gratitude from the Gradiška City Assembly, and the "Great Thanks" award from the Federation of Associations of Veterans of Serbia (SUBNOR).
The association’s enduring legacy is a testament to its dedication to cultural preservation and the spirit of community, ensuring that the name of Lepa Radić and her ideals continue to inspire future generations.
