Starlink, the satellite internet company owned by SpaceX and Elon Musk, has contacted Bosnian institutions to enter the Bosnian market.
By providing its service in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Starlink would cover the entire European market.
Although the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina told N1 that they had not been contacted by Starlink, the Regulatory Agency for Communications (RAK) confirmed that initial contact had been made.
"The satellite operator Starlink, in informational discussions with representatives of the Regulatory Agency for Communications (RAK), expressed interest in entering the Bosnian market and offering public internet access services to end users in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The operator has been instructed to obtain the necessary permits from the Agency. So far, no request for such permits has been submitted by Starlink," said RAK representatives.
Starlink offers high-speed satellite internet, with signals transmitted via satellites arranged in a constellation-like pattern, located lower than standard satellites. It is particularly effective in delivering high-speed data transfer to rural areas where physical internet infrastructure is either difficult to install or entirely absent.
The use of Starlink will be unlimited and will provide an additional option for citizens, alongside other internet providers, which will undoubtedly increase competitiveness in this sector.
