Humanity is the most beautiful rhythm we can create together. With this in mind, Banja Luka's Freshwave Festival is launching a voluntary blood donation campaign this year, inviting citizens to perform one of the noblest acts – donate blood and give someone a new chance at life.
As a
token of appreciation, everyone who donates blood during the campaign will
receive a free festival ticket valid for all three days of Freshwave Festival.
The
blood donation campaign will be held on August 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the
premises of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine of Republika Srpska. All
adult volunteers who donate blood that day will receive a free festival ticket
from the organizers as a gesture of gratitude.
The
festival organizers emphasize that the goal of the initiative goes far beyond
the festival itself.
"We
want to use the strength of the community that Freshwave brings together to
raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation. If this
campaign motivates even one person to donate blood for the first time, there is
a strong possibility that it will become a lifelong habit. That is where we see
the greatest value of this initiative," the organizers said.
"Blood
donation must remain exclusively a voluntary and humanitarian act. The festival
ticket is a token of appreciation and a small incentive for as many people as
possible to take that first step and perform an act that could save someone's
life," Freshwave Festival representatives emphasized.
Voluntary
blood donation is of immeasurable importance to the healthcare system. Blood
supplies save the lives of patients being treated for serious illnesses, people
injured in traffic accidents, patients undergoing complex surgical procedures,
and many others for whom a blood transfusion may be their only chance of
recovery.
The
organizers believe that young people can be drivers of positive change in
society and that music and festivals can be much more than entertainment. They can
also serve as platforms for promoting solidarity, humanity and social
responsibility.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BLOOD DONORS
A
voluntary blood donor can be any healthy person, male or female, between 18 and
65 years of age. People who are currently undergoing medical treatment or have
an acute or chronic illness should not donate blood.
Blood
donation is not painful, does not create a habit and does not harm the body.
The
Law on Transfusion Medicine establishes the criteria for voluntary blood
donation, as well as factors that may result in a donor being permanently or
temporarily excluded. These criteria are designed to protect both the health of
voluntary donors and the safety of patients.
Before donating blood, every potential donor will undergo a medical examination at the transfusion service.
Voluntary
donors are advised to:
Be
rested and well-slept.
Avoid
alcohol consumption during the 24 hours before donating blood.
Eat a
light breakfast and drink an adequate amount of fluids.
Donors
are also advised to avoid very fatty and spicy food on the day before and on
the day of blood donation. Saturated fats can circulate in the bloodstream and
make the collected blood unsuitable for use in treating patients.
Everyone
who meets the requirements for voluntary blood donation is invited to join the
campaign on August 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Institute for Transfusion
Medicine of Republika Srpska, and through this humanitarian gesture give
someone the most precious gift of all – a chance at life.
Because
one visit takes only a few minutes, but for someone else, it can mean an entire
lifetime.
