BIG-HEARTED GIRL: DUNJA DONATES HER HAIR FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER FOR THE SECOND TIME

At a time when acts of selflessness are especially valuable, ten-year-old Dunja Maslić from Crkvina, near Šamac, has once again shown how much compassion a child can have. The fourth-grade student of “Srbija” Elementary School has donated her hair for the second time to the “Iskra” Association, an organization that supports children battling cancer.

Dunja decided to make this generous donation to help create wigs for children who lose their hair during treatment, hoping to restore their confidence and bring smiles back to their faces.

“I wish for peace and good health, for all children to live happily, and for kindness to be a part of all of us,” Dunja said.

Her First Donation Was Three Years Ago

This is not the first time Dunja has demonstrated her generosity. Three years ago, while still very young, she donated her long hair after being inspired by the story of another girl who had done the same.

Her mother, Marina Maslić, recalled that Dunja immediately expressed a desire to help children who needed support the most.

“We waited almost six months for her hair to grow long enough. I thought she might forget about it, but she didn’t. She reminded me herself. We went to the hairdresser, her hair was cut, packed, and sent to the ‘Iskra’ Association,” Marina explained.

A Source of Pride for Her Family and School

Dunja’s gesture has made not only her family proud but also her teachers and classmates.

“We are incredibly proud of her humanity and maturity at such a young age. She let her hair grow for one purpose only – to donate it to someone and bring back their smile,” her mother said.

Radenka Mirosavljević, principal of “Srbija” Elementary School, emphasized that Dunja’s actions reflect values that should serve as an example to everyone.

“Her willingness to help those who need support the most deserves great respect and admiration. We are proud that Dunja is a student at our school and that she inspires others to spread kindness, compassion, and love for people through her example,” Mirosavljević said.

An Inspiration for All Generations

Dunja’s decision to donate her hair for a second time to children fighting serious illnesses proves that age is no barrier to making a difference. On the contrary, her example shows that kindness, empathy, and the desire to help others can inspire an entire community.

While many people search for ways to change the world, Dunja Maslić does it in the simplest way possible - by spreading kindness and bringing smiles to those who need them most.
