TRADITIONAL SHAVE AT BANJA LUKA'S PAUZA CAFE KICKS OFF THE 11TH ANNUAL MOVEMBER ORGANIZED BY SUPERBRKE

The 11th annual Movember event, organized by the association Superbrke, officially began with a traditional shave at Pauza Cafe in Banja Luka.

During the event, members of Superbrke shaped their mustaches to draw attention to their appearance as a way to spark conversations about men’s health, specifically testicular and prostate cancer. As in previous years, November will feature free testicular exams, self-exam tutorials, and fundraising for cancer patients.

Under the slogan “It’s Time,” this year’s Movember also brings some new initiatives.

“Our goal this year is to expand the scope of issues we address, primarily focusing on men’s mental health, which remains a taboo topic in societies like ours. For that purpose, we’re planning several activities. We also want to highlight the importance of self-examinations, general physical health care, and regular medical check-ups. We’re pleased to have even more donors this year, with whom we’ll organize joint promotions to spread the ‘Movember’ message further. We’ll soon provide more details to the public. Until then, we invite all socially responsible companies to join us in this cause, which is crucial for our community. And we encourage all citizens of Banja Luka to grow a mustache—together, we can work toward our common goal,” said Zoran Šišić, president of the Superbrke association.

One of the partners supporting the campaign is Hemofarm, a socially responsible company committed to raising awareness of men’s health over the past few years. This year, in partnership with Superbrke, Hemofarm aims to further spread awareness about these health issues. Hemofarm's director, Saša Urošević, attended the shave and pledged his support for the campaign by growing a mustache.

“Every year, we have one simple message: Get checked! Not just today, but make it a regular habit. Health is not merely the absence of illness; it’s physical, mental, and social well-being, as people are social beings. When it comes to health and prevention, there should be no taboo subjects—what may be difficult to talk about could save someone’s life. Be open, let go of shame and stigma, and address issues early. Whether physical or mental, help is available. It’s time to take control. Get checked!” said Saša Urošević, Hemofarm’s director in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As in previous years, the campaign has a humanitarian character, and this year, funds will be raised for the so-called “Mustache Fund,” which supports two young testicular cancer patients, born in 1998 and 2005, who are receiving treatment at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska.

For over a decade, Superbrke operated as an informal group of activists united around humanitarian ideals. Last year, their work was formalized as a registered association, elevating the Movember campaign and laying the groundwork for similar initiatives.

More information on upcoming activities and ways to support the cause can be found on the association’s Facebook, Instagram, and website.
