During this year’s Movember campaign, a total of 10,500 KM was raised to support men battling cancer, the organizers from the Superbrke Citizens’ Association announced. The funds have already been forwarded to two men currently undergoing medical treatment.
According
to Zoran Šišić, President of Superbrke, this year’s campaign saw broader
participation than ever before.
“This
year, a wider circle of individuals and collectives joined our action than ever
before. From citizens of Banja Luka, Prijedor, Kozarska Dubica, Foča, and
Prnjavor—where Movember parties were organized—to companies such as Lanaco,
Obsidian, Fabrika Coffee, Smart Office, CM, and Aquarius, which made their
donations. We are truly happy that, even in the 13th year of Movember in our
community, this story continues to grow and include more and more people,” Šišić
said.
As in
previous years, the largest portion of the collected funds was allocated to
direct support for men suffering from malignant diseases.
According
to Dr. Obren Tomić, Vice President of Superbrke, the assistance was directed
toward two individuals facing different health challenges.
“Sejdo
Hanukić from Teslić is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, which was the
main focus of this year’s campaign. Given that he lives in very difficult
conditions, 8,000 KM was allocated to help ease his daily challenges, allow him
to get through the winter without worry, and create conditions in which medical
treatments can have the maximum effect. Additionally, 2,500 KM was directed to
support Danijel Skakavac from Krupa na Vrbasu, who is currently being treated
for testicular cancer,” Dr. Tomić explained.
Nikola Popović, a member of Superbrke, added that the remaining funds were invested in prevention and education activities.
“Our
primary goal is to create long-term changes in how men relate to their health.
As part of this campaign, we provided free medical check-ups worth 2,000 KM,
and organized numerous educational sessions, panels, and other activities aimed
at informing men and creating institutional conditions for improving men’s
health. We truly believe that such activities are crucial in reducing the
extremely high rates of dangerous diseases, which, unfortunately, reach
alarming levels in our society,” Popović emphasized.
Popović
also called on everyone—especially young and middle-aged men—to follow
Superbrke’s official Facebook and Instagram profiles and to contact the
organization directly.
“Some
free check-ups will remain available in the coming period. Over the years, we
have built a strong network of partners whom we can always refer to anyone who
contacts us with questions or needs related to men’s health. The most important
thing is to ask—often and openly—to talk to one another and to speak much more
about preserving health than we currently do,” Popović concluded.
