A total of 12 cities from 11 countries across Europe are competing for this prestigious title, with the results for the final round set to be announced on April 2, 2025.

Winning this title would grant access to specific European funds, enabling the implementation of significant youth-oriented projects such as equipping a youth resource center and enhancing existing support programs for young people initiated by the City of Banjaluka.

Milada Šukalo, Advisor to the Mayor of Banjaluka, expressed pride that the European Youth Forum has recognized the city as a strong contender for this distinguished title.

"I am very proud that Banjaluka is among the 12 European cities nominated for the title of 'European Youth Capital 2028.' The city administration, led by Mayor Draško Stanivuković, is actively working on youth policies aimed at creating an environment where young people will want to stay, develop, and contribute to the community and society as a whole. In addition to numerous youth support programs, we have also worked on improving public spaces, such as the Youth Center, which has become a true hub for young people. With its excellent programs and diverse activities, the Youth Center provides a space where young people can spend quality time while acquiring new knowledge and skills," said Šukalo.

She also highlighted that Banjaluka has become one of the most popular destinations and most visited cities in the region.

"Banjaluka is rapidly becoming one of the most visited cities in the region. Thanks to its natural beauty, well-maintained parks and promenades, modern infrastructure, and diverse attractions, more and more visitors are returning to our city with joy. Through the promotion gained from our candidacy, we aim to attract even more young people to visit Banjaluka and discover the opportunities it offers," emphasized Šukalo.

The application program was developed in collaboration with the NGO "Perpetuum Mobile – Institute for Youth and Community Development."
