The medieval fortress Đurđev Grad, located above Zvornik, stands as a symbol of endurance and eternity. Each structure within the fortress holds its own secrets, sparking the imagination of visitors to envision life as it once was.
Combining legends and adventure, Đurđev Grad is not only
historically significant but also a captivating and attractive tourist
destination.
Accessing the fortress from Zvornik can be done via a
seven-kilometer asphalt road through the Srpska Varoš neighborhood or by a
1,700-meter pedestrian path leading from the city center to the fortress.
Đurđev Grad is the most significant tourist complex in the area, deserving respect as a relic of the era in which it was built, enriching the cultural and historical heritage of Zvornik.
It is believed that the fortress was constructed in the
early 14th century and was either seized or gifted to the Serbian ruler Đurađ
Branković by the Hungarian king in 1433, from whom it derives its name.
Đurđev Grad is also known as Jerina’s Town, named after
Đurađ’s wife, Prokleta Jerina, who, according to some legends, built the
fortress.
