There are plans to restore the parish house in the village of Laminci, near Gradiška, which was built more than a century ago by Prota Dušan Subotić.
This house was constructed in 1909 by the then young priest
Subotić and is the only building he constructed that has survived to this day,
serving as a cultural and spiritual treasure of Lijevče Polje.
According to the project developed by the Republic Institute
for the Protection of Cultural-Historical and Natural Heritage of RS, the
building would be repurposed into a museum dedicated to Prota Subotić, the
ethnological, cultural, spiritual, and military history of the village of
Laminci. Laminci was the first village in Lijevče to have a church known as the
"čadorlija."
The project is awaiting the blessing of Bishop Jefrem of Banja Luka, after which its realization could proceed.
Prota Dušan Subotić was born on September 11, 1884. He was a
significant figure in the social and political life of the Gradiška region. He
left an indelible mark on his area, starting with the initiative to build the
first pontoon bridge over the Sava River in 1920, connecting the left and right
banks, bringing great prosperity not only to the Gradiška municipality but to
the entire Lijevče Polje and Potkozarje region. He continued his father's work,
who participated in the construction of the first city church, helped elevate
the local gymnasium in Gradiška to a higher level, built the first banovina
hospital, and many other buildings.
He was killed by the Ustaše on May 5, 1941. On the
anniversary of his death in 2018, a bust was erected in the center of Gradiška
in memory of the man who wanted, could, and did much for his region. His deeds
earned Gradiška the nickname "Little Belgrade" during his lifetime.
