Members of the mountaineering association Abonos from Banja Luka organized a hiking trip last weekend to Mount Uilica, located in the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the municipality of Bosansko Grahovo.
Mount
Uilica represents the northernmost mountain branch of the Dinara mountain
range, stretching for about 15 kilometers in a north–south direction along the
tri-border area of Lika, Dalmatia and Bosnia.
On its
southwestern side, the mountain is bordered by the deep canyon of the Butišnica
River, the northernmost tributary of the Krka River, while the valley of the
Krčka River lies to the north. To the southeast, Uilica is separated from the
main Dinara massif by the Derala saddle (965 meters), through which the road
connecting Knin and Bosansko Grahovo passes.
The mountain ridge of Uilica features diverse terrain – from vast pastures and flattened peaks to massive rocks, steep cliffs and impressive mountain landscapes. This variety makes the mountain attractive to hikers and nature lovers throughout the year.
The
hiking tour started from the village of Peći, following a marked trail
maintained by the Mountaineering and Ecological Society “Ognjište” from
Bosansko Grahovo. The trail leads all the way to the peak of Gologlav (1,624
meters above sea level), where a viewpoint offers spectacular views of
surrounding mountains such as Cincar, Velebit, Jadovnik and Šator, as well as
the Dinara mountain itself.
“A
sunny winter day, mountain tranquility and great company made this climb a
special experience, once again confirming that mountains always reward those
who visit them with the right people and a positive spirit,” members of Abonos
said.
