The newly adopted Urban Plan of Trebinje envisions significant expansion of the city, with a strong focus on creating “New Trebinje” – an entirely new urban zone that will include the first Mediterranean park in the Republic of Srpska, announced Amerisa Zavitan Jeftović, head of the city’s Department for Spatial Planning.
Jeftović
said that the Urban Plan, adopted at the latest session of the local assembly,
is now legally binding and represents the city’s key strategic spatial document
for the next 15 years.
According
to her, the plan covers the entire urban area, with the biggest emphasis placed
on developing a completely new city zone – New Trebinje.
“The
plan envisions expansion toward the south, east, and west, as tourism growth
and residents' needs require new capacities. Alongside the existing Old Town
core, the concept of New Trebinje brings new roads, bypass routes, and improved
traffic solutions, including better parking,” Jeftović told Srna.
The Urban Plan has undergone all legal procedures, including public hearings and two public consultations. Out of around 200 submitted objections, 180 were accepted. The next step involves adopting detailed regulatory plans.
“For
three years, experts from the Urbis company in Banjaluka collaborated with our
department on this project. The document was transparently presented and
succeeds in preserving the city’s natural identity while meeting the increased demands
of investors,” she added.
Jeftović
emphasized that the plan includes the construction of New Trebinje, which will
span approximately 380 hectares, with boundaries stretching toward Dubrovnik,
the ‘City of the Sun’ complex, Gomiljani, and the village of Duži.
“This
will be a completely new part of the city, featuring a health center, congress
facilities, sports and recreational zones, hospitality amenities, and areas for
individual and family housing. The plan also includes the first Mediterranean
park in the Republic of Srpska,” Jeftović said, noting that the city’s
expansion is driven by constant demand for new construction.
“New
Trebinje will be a project we can all be proud of. Its implementation will ease
the pressure on the current city center and ensure long-term development,” she
concluded.
