VENICE CONSIDERS RAISING DAY-TRIPPER ENTRY FEE TO €30

Venice authorities are considering raising the entry fee for day visitors to as much as €30 from 2027, as part of efforts to tackle overtourism and reduce pressure on the historic city center.

The proposal was put forward by city councillor for budget and taxes Michele Zuin, who believes the current fee of €5 to €10 is no longer high enough to discourage visits during the busiest periods.

Venice introduced the entry fee in 2024, applying it only to day-trippers, while children under 14 and several other categories are exempt.

In 2026, the fee was charged on selected days between April 3 and July 26, generating more than €5.2 million from nearly 680,000 tickets.

City authorities are also considering extending the fee to more days of the year. The measure is intended to encourage tourists to avoid the busiest periods and help reduce the impact of mass tourism on Venice’s historic center.
