Through traditional dances, songs, and the sounds of folklore, members of the Serbian Cultural and Artistic Society “Derventa” celebrated 32 years of successful work and existence during their annual concert attended by a large audience.
During the evening, all members of the society performed, including the folklore school, four ensembles, a female singing group, and a traditional šargija music section, once again confirming the important role of SKUD “Derventa” in preserving cultural heritage and tradition.
Mayor Igor Žunić emphasized that the society is one of the oldest associations in the city and plays a significant role in promoting local culture and customs.
“This society gathers all generations, from the youngest members to veteran groups, and its main mission is to preserve our tradition and promote the Derventa region through dance and song, which is extremely important to us. The City Administration will always support these events, as well as the society in its future performances and travels around the world, because it is important to promote our culture and tradition,” Žunić said.
The president of the society, Milica Ratkovac, pointed out that SKUD “Derventa” currently has more than 200 members aged between seven and 45, while inviting everyone interested to join the organization.
“In addition to our annual concert, we are planning to organize the first children’s folklore festival, while in September we will host our ethno music festival dedicated to the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag,” Ratkovac said.
She added that members of the society will also participate this year in festivals in Turkey and Vrnjačka Banja.
For more than three decades, SKUD “Derventa” has been an important part of the cultural life of Derventa and Republika Srpska, bringing together younger and older generations with the goal of preserving Serbian tradition, folk dances, and customs.
