Šamac will once again celebrate its rich cultural heritage next April with the “Milica” Festival — an event dedicated to Milica Babić, a pioneer of theater and film costume design, born in Šamac and known as the wife of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić.
Over the years, this cultural manifestation has built a strong regional reputation, bringing together artists from Republika Srpska, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and beyond. The festival serves as a meeting point for diverse artistic expressions and cultural traditions, fostering creative exchange and strengthening regional ties.
Mianka Blagojević, Director of the Šamac Center for Culture, emphasized that next year’s edition will be richer in content and better organized, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska.
“The Ministry has supported our festival through a public call for co-financing projects that promote the decentralization of culture. We were granted 10,000 KM for organizing the festival next year,” Blagojević told Srna.
She added that this funding will enable higher-quality program implementation, greater accessibility of cultural events to citizens, and the continued development of the local cultural scene in the municipality of Šamac.
