MIROSLAV ČANGALOVIĆ DAYS TO BE HELD IN GLAMOČ FROM AUGUST 1 TO 4

The traditional cultural event "Miroslav Čangalović Days" will take place from August 1 to 4 in Glamoč, bringing together distinguished artists, writers and cultural figures to honor one of the greatest Serbian opera singers.

The seventh edition of the event will feature the promotion of the book "The Covenants of Matica Srpska – A Guide to the Oldest Serbian Cultural Institution" by Ivan Negrišorac, as well as a keynote address by Dr. Milan Micić.

The event will conclude with a concert of opera arias and solo opera performances. All programs will be held at the Cultural Center in Glamoč.

The organizers are the Municipality of Glamoč, the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, in cooperation with Matica Srpska and the Homeland Association "Glamočko Kolo" from Novi Sad and Banja Luka.

Who Was Miroslav Čangalović?

Miroslav Čangalović was born in Glamoč in 1921 and is regarded as one of the greatest names in the history of Serbian and Yugoslav opera.

He made his operatic debut in 1946 at the National Theatre in Belgrade, performing the role of the Jailer in Puccini's Tosca. He later continued his vocal training under the renowned opera singer and pedagogue Zdenka Zikova.

During his distinguished career, Čangalović performed more than 90 opera roles, including Don Quixote, Mephistopheles, King Philip II, Figaro, Konchak and Mitke, leaving a lasting mark on both the national and international opera scene.

A Career That Left a Lasting Legacy

Čangalović's concert career spanned more than four decades. He performed around 3,000 concerts throughout the former Yugoslavia and more than 160 performances abroad, appearing in prestigious concert halls in London, Paris, Moscow and Tokyo.

He passed away in Belgrade in 1999. The event bearing his name continues to preserve the memory of an artist whose remarkable voice left an enduring legacy in the history of Serbian opera.
