DAYS OF EAST SARAJEVO: FIVE DAYS OF CULTURE, MUSIC AND TRADITION

The traditional “Days of East Sarajevo” event, organized to mark the Day and Patron Saint’s Day of the city – Saint Peter of Dabrobosna – will take place from September 14 to 18, featuring a rich cultural, spiritual and commemorative programme.

Organized by the East Sarajevo City Administration, the five-day event will include concerts, a ceremonial academy, a gusle evening and a number of other activities.

Programme begins with a blood donation campaign

The programme begins on Monday, September 14, with a voluntary blood donation campaign, which will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the East Sarajevo City Administration building.

Later that day, at 7:00 p.m., the Katera music ensemble from East Sarajevo will perform at the Pale Cultural Centre. The ensemble is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Katera’s second concert will take place on Tuesday, September 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the East Sarajevo National Theatre. Both concerts are sponsored by the City of East Sarajevo.

Tribute to fallen soldiers and Ceremonial Academy

On Wednesday, September 16, at 9:00 a.m., delegations from the City Administration, municipalities, veterans’ organizations, as well as sister cities and municipalities, will lay wreaths and flowers at the Novi Zejtinlik Military Cemetery in Sokolac.

At 2:00 p.m., a reception will be held at the City Administration building for guests and officials from Serbia, Montenegro, the Russian Federation, Romania and North Macedonia.

The Ceremonial Academy will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the East Sarajevo National Theatre.

Patron Saint’s Day celebrations

The central part of the programme is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, when East Sarajevo celebrates its Day and Patron Saint’s Day – Saint Peter of Dabrobosna.

The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Peter of Dabrobosna in East Ilidža.

At 1:00 p.m., a traditional Patron Saint’s Day lunch for guests and citizens will be held at the sports hall on Republic of Serbia Square in East Novo Sarajevo.

Free Neverne Bebe concert

The evening programme will feature a concert by the popular rock band Neverne Bebe, beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the East Sarajevo National Theatre.

The concert is a gift from the East Sarajevo City Administration to residents on the occasion of the City Day and Patron Saint’s Day, and admission is free.

Gusle evening to close the event

The “Days of East Sarajevo” will conclude on Friday, September 18, with a Gusle Evening at the Pale Cultural Centre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The programme will also feature the presentation of the epic poem “Spomen-groblje na Sokocu” (“Memorial Cemetery in Sokolac”).

Over five days, the traditional event will bring together cultural, spiritual, humanitarian and commemorative activities, celebrating the heritage, identity and traditions of East Sarajevo.
