CHICAGO’S “SKADARLIJA” RESTAURANT CLOSES AFTER YEARS AS A HUB FOR THE BALKAN COMMUNITY

It is with regret that the public has been informed that the Balkan restaurant “Skadarlija,” which for years served as one of the main gathering places for the Serbian and wider Balkan community in Chicago, has officially ceased operations.

This restaurant was widely recognized as a center of social life for people from the region—a place where, alongside traditional cuisine, nostalgia was eased and numerous cultural and social events were held.

The restaurant’s management addressed the public with an official statement:

“Dear guests and friends, we inform you that Restaurant Skadarlija will no longer be operating. Thank you for your trust, support, and all the wonderful moments we shared together. It was our honor to host you and be part of your memories. Yours, Skadarlija.”

On this occasion, journalists from Serbian Times contacted the restaurant’s owner, Nenad Bojkovski, who confirmed the news and briefly commented on the decision to close:

“We are going down in history. It’s time for retirement. Thank you to all our guests and friends,” Bojkovski told Serbian Times.
