While most students choose flowers or small gifts to thank their teachers at the end of the school year, eleven-year-old Miloš Kecman from Trn decided to prepare something truly unique – a handmade piece of traditional Zmijanje embroidery.
According
to the Women's Humanitarian Association "Duga", which shared the
story on social media, Miloš, a student of the "Desanka Maksimović"
Elementary School in Trn, attended the association's "Little School of
Zmijanje Embroidery" together with his sister Martina back in 2024.
"At
that time, Miloš was only nine years old and one of our youngest participants.
Patient and dedicated, he successfully mastered the demanding embroidery
technique. This year he completed the fifth grade and, during the winter break,
came up with the idea of creating a gift for his teacher with his own hands.
Despite numerous school and extracurricular commitments, he never gave up on
his idea and eventually completed this very demanding project – an embroidered
piece framed as a keepsake," the association said.
The
artwork is particularly meaningful because Miloš embroidered the names of all
his classmates using a fine cross-stitch technique, adding traditional Zmijanje
embroidery ornaments and the name of his teacher, Biljana.
Representatives of the association emphasized that the gift symbolizes the special bond between a student and his teacher.
"The
careful selection of ornaments and the inclusion of the students' names show
how much effort, patience, perseverance and respect for tradition Miloš
invested in this work. We are certain that this gift will hold a special place
in Teacher Biljana's heart and that she will cherish it for many years as a
reminder of the love and creativity of her students," they stated.
Miloš's
touching gesture is a beautiful example of how traditional craftsmanship,
creativity and gratitude can come together in a gift that carries far greater
value than any ordinary present.
