Đorđe Savić from Laktaši successfully completed the marathon in Madrid, drawing special attention as he carried the flag of his hometown on his back during the race, symbolically representing it at one of the major sporting events in the Spanish capital.
Savić ran the marathon through well-known city streets and past famous landmarks of Madrid, including Puerta del Sol and El Retiro Park. Throughout the race, participants were supported by large crowds of spectators cheering the runners along the route.
His appearance sparked positive reactions, as he promoted his hometown and symbolically presented it in front of a large number of participants and spectators.
A memorable experience
After finishing the marathon, Savić said it was a special experience he will remember for a long time.
“For me, it was an incredible experience. Running through a city like this, through the streets of Puerta del Sol and past El Retiro Park, with the great support of the crowd, is something that will be remembered for a lifetime. There were difficult sections and moments of struggle with myself, but carrying the flag on my back made it clear that there was no giving up — only moving forward to the finish line,” Savić said.
