Although the construction of the cable car on Banj Hill above Banja Luka has not yet started, the project remains on the city’s agenda. The initiative is currently in the stage of preparing technical documentation, the Banja Luka City Administration confirmed.
“In the upcoming period, activities related to
the cable car construction will include completing the project and technical
documentation and obtaining the necessary approvals and permits from relevant
authorities. Only after that will the actual construction activities be
scheduled, and the public will be informed accordingly,” the City
Administration stated, as reported by Glas Srpske.
STARTING STATION
The starting station of the cable car is
planned at the foot of the hill, opposite the “3 Banje” area in Srpske Toplice.
“The destination station is planned near the
existing parking area within the wider vicinity of the monument. The route will
linearly connect the planned starting and destination locations,” the City
Administration added.
They emphasized that the exact locations of
the stations, the detailed route, and all other technical details will be
determined by a feasibility and justification study.
“At this stage, until the project and
technical documentation is finalized, we can only discuss the planned locations
and proposed route,” they explained.
IMPACT ON TOURISM
The project plans for the cable car to have a
capacity of 500 to 1,000 passengers per hour.
“This means the initial capacity will be 500
passengers per hour, with the possibility to expand to 1,000 passengers per
hour,” officials added
The cable car is intended to operate
year-round, as Banja Luka is not a seasonal destination but attracts visitors
throughout the year. Local residents are also expected to benefit from
year-round access.
Officials stressed that the cable car on Banj
Hill would positively impact both tourism and the local community.
“Existing cable cars in the region show mutual
benefits for tourism and local communities. The new cable car would further
position Banja Luka as an attractive tourist destination in the region and
beyond. The local community would gain multiple benefits from increased tourist
activity, and Banj Hill would become more accessible to everyone,” the City
Administration stated.
CITIZEN SUGGESTIONS
All project and technical documentation will
be submitted to authorized institutions for expert review and approvals.
“City representatives always listen to
legitimate suggestions from citizens. Significant attention is being given to
the cable car project, involving many experts to ensure the future cable car
meets legal regulations, professional standards, and public interests,” they
added.
Pensioner Milosava P. believes the cable car
would further revitalize Banj Hill and enhance Banja Luka’s tourism offerings.
“Every summer, I visit Vrućica with my
friends, and we truly enjoy the city on the Vrbas River. The cable car would be
wonderful, especially for older people like us. Many people want to visit Banj
Hill, but walking there is exhausting. This would make it easier for everyone
and give the city another beautiful and useful attraction,” she said.
