The Mountaineering and Sports Organization Vihra Rudo Mountaineering and Sports Organization, with the support of the Municipality of Rudo and sponsors, will organize the fourth edition of the Salamander Trail on October 24 this year — a sporting event that has become a recognizable stop on the regional trail-running map over the past three years.
The
race will be held on two routes. The longer course will cover 21.5 kilometers
with more than 1,050 meters of elevation gain, while the shorter route will
stretch 12 kilometers with over 600 meters of ascent.
Competitors
in both men’s and women’s categories are expected to arrive from across Bosnia
and Herzegovina and neighboring countries. Organizers say interest in this demanding
yet attractive mountain race continues to grow.
Since
its launch, the Salamander Trail has attracted more than 200 runners to Rudo.
The continuity of the event and its unique atmosphere have encouraged many
participants to return year after year, confirming that the race offers more
than just a sporting challenge.
This year, organizers have again prepared cash prizes for the top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories on each course, along with special gifts for the most successful competitors.
All participants will also receive lunch,
refreshments along the trail, and a music and entertainment program,
maintaining the Salamander Trail’s character as a full-day sporting and social
event.
The
project was initiated by Mirko Ivanović, a member of the Vihra Rudo
Mountaineering and Sports Organization, who has been involved in trail running
for more than five years. He has competed in 37 domestic and regional races and
has won two third-place finishes. Ivanović sees the Salamander Trail as an
opportunity to bring sport and physical activity closer to young people while
also presenting the natural beauty of his hometown to visitors.
Rudo
lies along the Lim River in the eastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, near
the tri-border area with Serbia and Montenegro. Known for its rich history,
culture, and preserved nature, the municipality has in recent years been
steadily building its reputation as a destination for active tourism.
The
Salamander Trail itself is named after the Fire Salamander (Salamandra
salamandra), an amphibian commonly found in this region. The race further
enriches the local tourist offer and promotes the mountains and hills around
Rudo as an ideal stage for outdoor sporting challenges.
