The Višegrad Regatta once again brought together a large number of participants from Višegrad, neighbouring municipalities in Republika Srpska and Serbia, as well as guests from several European countries who promoted the natural beauty of the Drina River canyon through their journey.
The 19th regatta started beneath the arches of the famous Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, with participants sailing around 15 kilometres downstream along the Drina River to Stari Brod.
Guests from several countries sailed the Drina
Director of the Višegrad Tourism Organisation Jadranko Janjić said that this year’s regatta gathered more than 30 vessels from Višegrad, surrounding municipalities in Republika Srpska and Serbia.
“Among our guests are people from Denmark, Austria, France, Germany, Slovenia, as well as other Balkan countries, many of whom have roots in this area. For many of them, this is a special day because they have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Drina and reconnect with their homeland,” Janjić said.
He noted that Višegrad has more than 100 river vessels that cruise the Drina daily during the tourist season, expressing hope that even more boat owners will take part in the regatta in the coming years.
Regatta promotes Višegrad’s tourism potential
Višegrad Mayor Mladen Đurević said that the Višegrad Regatta is one of the most important tourism events, presenting the natural potential of the municipality in the best possible way.
“The Drina is our greatest natural treasure, and the Višegrad Regatta is an opportunity to showcase it to numerous guests from the region and abroad. We will continue to support this event because it contributes to tourism development, the promotion of Višegrad and strengthening friendships among people who gather here every year,” Đurević said.
The Višegrad Regatta has become a traditional gathering that brings together nature lovers, boating enthusiasts and visitors seeking recreation and socialising. The Drina River canyon continues to attract an increasing number of domestic and international tourists every year.
