Lovers of traditional cuisine, good food and social gatherings will once again have the opportunity to enjoy the Drina Cooking Festival, a traditional gastronomic event held in Višegrad.
The event will take place on September 12, 2026, at the plateau below Hotel Višegrad, starting at 10 a.m.
Organized
by the Tourist Organization of the Municipality of Višegrad, the festival is
held every September and has become an important part of the town's event
calendar.
TEAMS TO COMPETE IN PREPARING TRADITIONAL FISH SOUP
The
organizers are inviting interested teams to prepare their cooking pots, gather
their friends and demonstrate their culinary skills by preparing traditional
dishes over an open fire.
The
main competition involves preparing traditional fish soup in a cooking pot over
an open fire, with valuable prizes and trophies awaiting the three best-ranked
teams.
Registration
for participating teams is open until September 10, 2026.
FREE FISH STEW FOR VISITORS
The
event is also intended for visitors who want to experience local gastronomy and
the atmosphere of a traditional gathering along the Drina River.
As
part of the programme, the organizers will prepare a large pot of fish stew for
visitors to taste free of charge, offering guests an opportunity to sample one
of the region's traditional specialties.
The
festival takes place on the plateau near the famous Mehmed Paša Sokolović
Bridge, one of Višegrad's most recognizable landmarks.
PROMOTING THE DRINA AND VIŠEGRAD'S GASTRONOMIC OFFER
The
main goal of the Drina Cooking Festival is to promote the natural and tourism
potential of the Drina River, as well as the gastronomic offer of Višegrad and
the surrounding area.
Through
food, competition and socializing, the event brings together local residents,
visitors and lovers of traditional cuisine, while highlighting Višegrad as a
destination where cultural heritage, nature and authentic gastronomy come
together.
