One of the most attractive natural sites in the Banja Luka area, Kameni Most (Stone Bridge) in Krupa na Vrbasu, is set to receive a makeover through a project aimed at making this unique natural gem more accessible and appealing to visitors and nature lovers.
The
project focuses on improving the Kameni Most site in the Kovačići hamlet,
including the development and marking of walking trails, the installation of
tourist and information signage, and the improvement of rest areas and
viewpoints offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy the area's remarkable
natural beauty.
PRESERVING NATURE WHILE ENHANCING TOURISM
Milada
Šukalo, project manager for the City of Banja Luka, recently visited the site
and highlighted that the project aims to preserve the natural character of
Kameni Most while further showcasing its tourism potential.
“Kameni
Most is one of those places whose beauty and uniqueness leave a lasting
impression on everyone who visits. Our goal is to give this natural gem the
attention it deserves, making it more accessible and attractive to visitors
while preserving its natural value,” Šukalo said.
She
added that the development of walking trails, viewpoints and rest areas would
enable more people to discover the area's beauty while providing additional
support for rural and sustainable tourism.
DEVELOPING TOURISM BEYOND THE CITY CENTRE
Banja
Luka boasts exceptional natural resources, and one of the city's priorities is
to protect and promote them while incorporating them into the wider tourism
offer.
“Our
goal is to develop tourism beyond the city centre, because destinations such as
Kameni Most, Krupa na Vrbasu and the surrounding villages represent enormous
potential that remains insufficiently utilised. Through projects like this, we
are investing not only in tourism infrastructure but also in local communities,
creating new opportunities for residents and promoting Banja Luka as a
destination with much to offer,” Šukalo noted.
SUPPORT FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM ALONG VIA DINARICA
The
project is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the
City of Banja Luka. In addition to improving tourism infrastructure, it aims to
protect natural heritage and support sustainable tourism development along the
international Via Dinarica route.
Once
the planned activities are completed, Kameni Most will offer improved
facilities for visitors, while Krupa na Vrbasu, Krmine, Ljubačevo and the
surrounding areas will gain additional opportunities to develop tourism and
strengthen their local economies.
Through
initiatives like this, Banja Luka continues to discover, preserve and improve
access to its natural treasures, creating new destinations for relaxation,
recreation and enjoying the outdoors.
