Tasting local specialties is just as important as visiting landmarks when traveling to a new country. Gastronomy has become one of the key reasons people choose a destination, but the price of a dinner for two can vary significantly across Europe.
A new
study conducted by the website FerryGoGo reveals which European countries are
the most affordable and which are the most expensive when it comes to dining
out.
The
analysis is based on the average price of a three-course dinner for two people,
excluding drinks, in a mid-range restaurant. The results highlight major
differences between Southeastern and Northern Europe, while also showing where
Bosnia and Herzegovina stands on the list.
The Most Affordable Countries for Dining Out
According
to the research, the lowest prices are found in Southeastern Europe. The most
affordable country is North Macedonia, where a dinner for two costs an average
of €24.38.
It is
followed by Moldova with an average price of €30.32.
Among
the most affordable destinations are also Bosnia and Herzegovina, where dinner
for two costs around €30.75, and Serbia, where the average price in a mid-range
restaurant is about €38.34.
These
figures confirm that the Balkans remain highly competitive when it comes to
hospitality prices, making the region attractive to tourists seeking quality
meals at affordable prices.
The Most Expensive Countries in Europe for Restaurants
At the
opposite end of the list is Switzerland, where a three-course dinner for two in
a mid-range restaurant costs an average of €107.24. The country’s high living
standards and operating costs significantly affect restaurant prices.
Second
place goes to Denmark with an average price of €93.69, followed by Luxembourg
at €90.
Among
the most expensive destinations is also Norway, where dinner for two costs
around €89.86.
The
difference between the cheapest and the most expensive countries exceeds €80,
clearly illustrating how much a travel destination can influence a traveler’s
food budget.
A Wide Range of Prices Across Europe
Europe
offers a wide range of prices when it comes to restaurant services. While
countries such as North Macedonia, Moldova and Serbia are among the most
affordable, Switzerland, Denmark and Luxembourg lead the list with the highest
prices.
When
planning a trip, the food budget can play a significant role. Studies like this
help travelers better estimate their expenses and choose destinations that
match their financial possibilities—without giving up the pleasure of enjoying
local cuisine.
