Representatives of the City of Trebinje have presented the “New Trebinje” project, assessed as one of the biggest development opportunities not only for the city itself, but also for the Republic of Srpska.
The project, which is of special importance for solving housing issues, attracting investments and creating conditions for keeping young people in the region, was presented by Luka Petrović, President of the Association of Municipalities and Cities of Eastern Herzegovina, Mirko Ćurić, Mayor of Trebinje, and Siniša Vučurević, Head of the Department for Capital Investments.
Petrović emphasized that “New Trebinje” represents a long-term and strategic vision of planned urban development that has not yet been implemented in any local community in the Republic of Srpska.
“The construction of New Trebinje is planned in three phases, including residential and business zones, as well as a new road that will directly connect the existing city center with the new urban area,” Petrović said.
He added that the project includes complete infrastructure and all facilities necessary for a high quality of life – schools, a health center, kindergartens, a sports hall and other public buildings.
Mayor Mirko Ćurić stressed that special emphasis is placed on the possibility of purchasing real estate at significantly more affordable prices, with promotional conditions for the first investors, making “New Trebinje” an attractive opportunity for both citizens and businesses.
“We will pay special attention to facilities for young people,” Ćurić added.
During the presentation, it was also announced that the construction permit for the Trebinje Airport, in the part related to building works, is expected in August, which would further improve transport and economic connectivity of the area.
The project will cover about 380 hectares, and by connecting it with Grad Sunca (Sun City), the total area of the future urban complex will reach approximately 420 hectares.
The Head of the City Department of Urban Planning, Amerisa Zavitan Jeftović, previously stated that the new urban plan предусматрива expansion of the city with a special focus on the formation of New Trebinje, which will include the first Mediterranean park in the Republic of Srpska. She emphasized that the Urban Development Plan is legally valid and represents the key spatial-planning document for the next 15 years.
The first phase of the project is planned to be completed by 2030, the second by 2040, and the third by 2050.
A promotional film about New Trebinje was also presented at the event, showing planned roads and buildings. The presentation was attended by heads of city departments, business representatives, and directors of public companies and institutions, who shared their suggestions and proposals.
