The lake stretches approximately 440 meters in length and 220 meters in width, with a maximum depth of around 10 meters. It lies in a լայն, open valley encircled by the imposing peaks of Domoš, Prutača, Klek, and Zimovica, creating a dramatic and picturesque landscape.

Fed by several natural springs, the lake maintains its clarity and freshness, while its waters disappear into a sinkhole on the southern side. These same waters re-emerge in the village of Pridvorica, eventually flowing into the Neretva River, illustrating a fascinating underground hydrological connection.

Much of the lakebed is covered with aquatic vegetation, which, combined with the reflection of light, gives the water its distinctive emerald-green color—a defining feature that enchants all who visit.

Thanks to its isolation and well-preserved ecosystem, Kotlaničko Lake is rich in wildlife. It is home to various fish species, predominantly the native lake trout, as well as the triton, an endemic amphibian species that further highlights the lake’s ecological significance.

The lake is managed by Sutjeska National Park and is connected by hiking trails to nearby Štirinsko and Orlovačko lakes, making it an essential stop for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

As highlighted by the platform “Upoznaj Srpsku,” Kotlaničko Lake remains one of the most remarkable natural treasures of Zelengora—an untouched paradise waiting to be discovered.
