AUGUST 2026 WAS THE HOTTEST IN TREBINJE IN THE PAST 90 YEARS

August 2026 was the hottest August recorded in Trebinje in the past 90 years, with every day of the month registering tropical temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius or higher, according to Predrag Palikuća of the Meteorological Station in Trebinje.

Palikuća told Srna that the city recorded 27 tropical nights, during which the minimum air temperature did not fall below 20 degrees Celsius.

The average monthly temperature in August was 27.9 degrees Celsius, while the highest temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius was measured on August 7. The lowest temperature, 19.1 degrees Celsius, was recorded on August 17.

77 TROPICAL DAYS FROM JUNE TO AUGUST

According to Palikuća, the period from June through the end of August brought a total of 77 tropical days and 56 tropical nights to Trebinje.

June recorded 18 tropical days and 13 tropical nights, July had 28 tropical days and 16 tropical nights, while August stood out with 31 tropical days and 27 tropical nights.

The figures underline the exceptional persistence of high temperatures throughout the summer, particularly during August.

AUGUST ALSO MARKED BY A SIGNIFICANT LACK OF RAIN

In addition to the extreme heat, August was considerably drier than the long-term average.

Only 23.5 litres of rain per square metre fell during the month, spread across just three rainy days. By comparison, the average August rainfall for the period from 2000 to 2025 was 67.5 litres per square metre.

Palikuća noted that the rainfall deficit accumulated over the previous six months had reached 50 percent.

WIND GUSTS REACHED 14.8 METRES PER SECOND

The strongest wind gust recorded in Trebinje during August reached 14.8 metres per second, measured on August 18.

Despite the extreme heat, the August 2026 temperature record did not surpass the absolute maximum for the month. The highest August temperature recorded between 2000 and 2026 remains 42.5 degrees Celsius, measured on August 24, 2007.

The wettest August in the same period was recorded in 2023, when Trebinje received 205 litres of rain per square metre.

The combination of record-high average temperatures, 31 tropical days and a significant rainfall deficit makes August 2026 one of the most exceptional summer months recorded in Trebinje's recent meteorological history.
