HOW TO CLEAN YOUR AIR CONDITIONER AFTER SUMMER AND PREPARE IT FOR COLDER DAYS

As the first colder days arrive, air conditioners are gradually switched off after months of intensive use. However, before putting the device on a longer break, it is important to clean and properly prepare it for the next season.

Moisture that remains inside the indoor unit after cooling, combined with accumulated dust and darkness, can create favourable conditions for mould growth and unpleasant, musty odours.

One simple step can significantly reduce this risk. Before switching off the air conditioner for the last time, set it to “Fan” mode, which operates only the fan, and leave it running for 30 to 60 minutes. This allows the inside of the unit to dry as thoroughly as possible.

If your air conditioner has a function such as “Auto Dry” or “Auto Clean”, it is worth using it, as these functions are specifically designed to help dry and clean the indoor unit after cooling.

CLEAN THE FILTERS AT THE END OF THE SEASON

The end of the cooling season is also a good opportunity to clean the air conditioner filters. Dust and other particles accumulate on the filters during regular operation and can affect both air quality and the efficiency of the device.

After washing the filters, make sure they are completely dry before putting them back into the unit.

CHECK THE CONDENSATE DRAIN

Another important step is checking the condensate drain pipe. Dirt and deposits can accumulate inside the drain and prevent water from flowing away normally.

If you notice that the drain is blocked or that water is leaking from the air conditioner where it should not, it is better to contact a qualified service technician rather than attempting aggressive cleaning yourself.

A few simple steps before the final shutdown can make a significant difference when the air conditioner is switched on again next summer.

Drying the indoor unit, cleaning and properly drying the filters, and checking the condensate drain can help prevent unpleasant odours, mould and potential operating problems.
