TOURIST ARRIVALS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA UP 26.1% IN MAY

Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded 202,742 tourist arrivals in May 2026, representing a 26.1% increase compared to April 2026. However, the figure was 2.3% lower than in May 2025, according to data released by the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tourists recorded a total of 409,674 overnight stays in May, marking a 26.4% increase compared to the previous month and a 0.9% rise year-on-year.

According to the Agency, domestic tourists accounted for 29% of all overnight stays, while foreign visitors generated 71% of the total.

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists increased by 18.6% compared to April 2026 but declined by 7.9% compared to May last year.

Foreign tourists, meanwhile, recorded 29.8% more overnight stays than in April 2026 and 5% more than in May 2025.

Visitors from Serbia and Türkiye Generated the Most Overnight Stays

By country of origin, the largest share of overnight stays among foreign tourists came from Serbia (12.7%), followed by Türkiye (11%), Croatia (10.2%), Slovenia (6.4%), Germany (5.2%), the United States (5%), and France (3.6%).

Together, visitors from these seven countries accounted for 54.1% of all overnight stays by foreign tourists, while the remaining 45.9% came from visitors from other countries.

South African and Qatari Tourists Stayed the Longest

In May 2026, Bosnia and Herzegovina offered 21,848 hotel rooms, apartments and camping units, with a total capacity of 49,731 beds.

Compared with May 2025, the number of accommodation units decreased by 2.3%, while the total number of available beds fell by 0.8%, the Agency reported.

When it comes to the average length of stay, tourists from South Africa and Qatar stayed the longest, averaging 3.6 overnight stays per arrival.

They were followed by visitors from Ireland, with an average stay of 3.4 nights, while tourists from Egypt and Denmark stayed an average of 2.9 nights. Visitors from France and Malta recorded an average stay of 2.7 nights per arrival.
