The fifth edition of the “Milica” Festival, dedicated to Milica Babić Andrić—the first formally educated Serbian costume designer and the wife of Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić—will take place in Šamac from April 21 to 24.
The
festival will officially open on April 21 at 7:00 PM with the concert “Young
Stars of the Opera Scene,” performed by the Opera Studio of the National
Theatre in Belgrade—Milica’s home institution, where she spent more than three
decades of her career.
As part of the program, audiences will have the opportunity to watch the play “Anđela,” performed by the Belgrade Drama Theatre, as well as “Kuća” (“The House”), staged by actors from the National Theatre of the Republic of Srpska.
Acting
Director of the Cultural Center, Milanka Blagojević, stated that “Anđela” is a
powerful драмatic story that reexamines relationships, morality, and individual
choices in a contemporary way. Meanwhile, “Kuća” explores themes of identity,
belonging, and heritage through a family narrative and complex interpersonal
relationships.
In
addition to theatrical performances, the festival will feature costume design
workshops, lectures, and an exhibition, further preserving the legacy and
artistic contribution of Milica Babić Andrić.
According
to Blagojević, the program has been carefully designed to engage visitors of
all generations.
