She stated that the goal is to further develop the Library while following the needs of the community and modern trends in librarianship.

“Last year was extremely dynamic and content-rich. We are proud of the number of programs implemented, the improvement of our facilities, and the growing number of users who recognize the Library as a place of knowledge, meetings and culture,” Vuković said.

She emphasized that the National Library achieved outstanding results, confirming its role as one of the most important cultural centers in Trebinje. A particularly important step was the visit to the National Library in Sofia, one of Bulgaria’s largest cultural and educational institutions, where cooperation with its management was agreed.

Vuković also highlighted the importance of the Jovan Dučić Legacy housed in the Trebinje Library, which is visited each year by many pupils, professors, academics and researchers. Part of this collection was exhibited last year at the “Svetozar Marković” University Library in Belgrade.

During the past year, the Library organized around 100 cultural, educational and promotional events, including meetings with prominent writers from the region, lecture series with psychologists, participation in “Dučić Day” and “Dučić Poetry Evenings,” as well as programs dedicated to preserving the Cyrillic script and promoting the importance of books.

In addition, the Library organized photography and foreign language courses, a mini physics festival, and many other educational activities attended by hundreds of citizens of all ages.

Special focus was placed on work with children through workshops aimed at developing reading habits, creativity and love for books, while cooperation with primary and secondary schools was strengthened through visits and promotional activities.

Vuković noted that the library fund was significantly enriched last year with the largest number of newly acquired books so far, giving readers access to a wider and more modern selection of titles and resulting in a notable increase in users.

Attention was also paid to improving the space and working conditions. The library courtyard was arranged and used for literary evenings and cultural gatherings, while offices were equipped with modern equipment, further improving the quality of services for visitors.

“Our mission is to keep the National Library a living, modern place of culture and knowledge for Trebinje and its guests,” Vuković concluded.
