BILJA KRSTIC TO PERFORM AT JUBLIEE ETHNO SONG FESTIVAL IN DERVENTA

DERVENTA – On September 12, the city of Derventa will become the epicenter of traditional Balkan music as it hosts a landmark cultural event: the jubilee 10th annual "Ethno Song" Festival.

The musical evening will kick off at 7:00 PM at the Liberation Square (Trg oslobođenja). The festival will open with performances by the women's vocal group of ANIP "Veselin Masleša" from Banja Luka and the women's vocal group of SKUD "Derventa." The absolute highlight and central event of the evening will be a grand performance by the legendary Bilja Krstić and her renowned Bistrik Orchestra.

More Than Just a Concert

The arrival of Bilja Krstić in Derventa is far more than just another tour stop. It represents a rare opportunity to witness an artist who boasts over five decades of musical excellence. Her creative vision has left an indelible mark on the contemporary interpretation of traditional music from Serbia and the wider Balkan region.

Throughout her illustrious career, Krstić has traversed diverse musical phases. She began her journey in cult bands like Suncokret and Rani mraz, transitioned into a successful solo pop career, and ultimately dedicated her artistry to traditional music. By founding the Bistrik Orchestra, she sparked a cultural shift, bringing traditional folklore and ethno music closer to modern audiences without sacrificing its authentic roots.

Preserving Heritage for Modern Generations

Krstić reshaped traditional melodies through fresh arrangements and contemporary performance styles. The result is a highly recognizable signature sound—a seamless fusion of ethno music, polyphonic singing, traditional melodies, improvisation, and modern production. She remains one of the most prominent cultural ambassadors dedicated to preserving musical heritage and passing it on to younger generations.

Alongside the Bistrik Orchestra, she has graced numerous international stages, bringing her unique program to 26 countries across three continents. Acclaimed albums such as Bistrik, Zapisi, Tarpoš, The Wellspring, and Svod have firmly established her status as a global icon on the world music scene.

Following last year's massive milestone celebrating her 50-year music career, this year’s performance in Derventa carries a double significance, as Krstić and the Bistrik Orchestra also mark the 25th anniversary of their joint artistic journey.

Admission is open to the public, and local organizers expect a large turnout of music lovers from across the region.
