The documentary film After the Party (Poslije zabave) has won the Special Jury Prize at the 14th edition of the Balkan Nordic Film Festival DOC:SHORT 2025, recently held in Stockholm.
In its
official statement, the jury emphasized that through the figure of writer Stevo
Grabovac, the film captures a hard-earned and long-awaited victory, whose
symbolic weight is reflected in the achievement of the prestigious NIN Literary
Award. The jury noted that this accomplishment is portrayed with a precision
and gravity comparable to honors on the scale of the Nobel Prize for
Literature.
The
film follows Stevo Grabovac, the winner of the NIN Award for his novel After
the Party (2023/2024), using his life and work to explore themes of war trauma,
crime, family, friendship, and coming of age in a post-conflict society.
The project was produced by Didaskalija, with Službeni glasnik of the Republic of Srpska serving as co-producer of this significant work that bridges literature and cinematic art.
This
marks the first award for the documentary, with additional festival screenings
and recognitions expected in the coming months.
After
the Party was also recently screened in Brod, Grabovac’s hometown—a place of
particular importance in both his biography and literary oeuvre. Key events and
motifs from his award-winning novel are set there, and the hometown screening
further highlighted the film’s strong emotional and symbolic connection with
the local audience.
The
documentary continues to attract attention from regional and international
audiences alike, reaffirming the power of documentary filmmaking in addressing
complex themes from the recent past.
