The blue electric scooters that arrived on the streets of Banja Luka in 2023 will soon disappear from the city, as Turkish company BinBin has announced the end of its operations in the largest city in Republika Srpska.
Users
were informed about the company’s departure through the BinBin application.
“Thank
you, Banja Luka. BinBin is ending its operations in Banja Luka. Thank you for
your trust, the rides and every kilometre we travelled together,” the company
said in a message to users.
It
remains unknown whether BinBin will also withdraw from other cities across
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Banja
Luka received 200 electric scooters for rental in 2023, which were initially
available at 13 locations throughout the city. The service quickly became a
recognizable part of the urban landscape, offering residents and visitors an
alternative means of transportation.
However, shortly after the scooters appeared on Banja Luka’s streets, BinBin temporarily withdrew its entire fleet after several citizens were fined because the scooters did not have identification stickers required under the country’s traffic safety legislation.
The
company subsequently paid the fines issued to citizens, registered the scooters
and returned them to the streets.
BinBin’s
departure comes only days after another major platform left the Bosnian market.
On August 10, Glovo officially ceased operations not only in Banja Luka but
throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, ending several years of presence by one of
the country’s best-known food delivery platforms.
The
departure of both companies marks another significant change in the urban
mobility and digital services landscape in Banja Luka and Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
