BIJELJINA BUG JAM BREAKS RECORD AS VOLKSWAGEN ENTHUSIASTS ARRIVE FROM ACROSS EUROPE

The 10th edition of the “Bijeljina Bug Jam” has broken the event’s previous attendance record, bringing together around 100 owners and enthusiasts of the iconic Volkswagen Beetle and other classic vehicles at Banja Dvorovi in Bijeljina.

According to Bojan Stajić, president of the Oldtimer Club Bijeljina, this year’s jubilee gathering attracted an especially large number of international visitors, further confirming the event’s growing international character.

“I think we have broken the record this year in terms of the number of participants. We have around 100 registered participants and have practically filled the camp to capacity,” Stajić said.

GUESTS ARRIVE FROM ACROSS EUROPE

In addition to participants from countries across the region, the jubilee edition welcomed classic-car enthusiasts from Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Germany and Austria.

Some visitors came to Bijeljina for the first time, while others have been returning since the event’s earliest editions.

“Many of them are visiting Bijeljina for the tenth time, while we also have participants who are here with us for the first time, which makes us particularly happy,” Stajić said.

SLOVAK ENTHUSIASTS TRAVEL 840 KILOMETRES IN THEIR BEETLES

One of the most impressive stories came from the participants from Slovakia, who travelled approximately 840 kilometres one way to reach Bijeljina in their Volkswagen Beetles.

The journey also represents a continuation of a friendship between the two clubs. Members of the Bijeljina Oldtimer Club had previously travelled the same distance to attend a gathering in Slovakia.

“We drove around 840 kilometres one way in our Beetles to visit them, and now they have come to us. We are especially happy that this story and this friendship are continuing,” Stajić said.

MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY OLD – AND STILL ON THE ROAD

Speaking about the legendary Volkswagen vehicles, Stajić highlighted their remarkable durability, noting that many of the cars on display are more than 50 years old.

Despite their age, numerous Beetles continue to cover hundreds of kilometres without major problems, taking their owners to classic-car gatherings throughout the region and across Europe.

For their owners, these vehicles are not simply museum pieces. They remain fully functional automobiles capable of long journeys, while at the same time preserving an important chapter of automotive history.

FRIENDSHIP AND SHARING EXPERIENCES COME FIRST

The organisers emphasise that the “Bijeljina Bug Jam” is not a competition and that its primary purpose is not to select the best or most beautiful car.

“The most important things are socialising, exchanging experiences and building friendships. The gathering is not competitive,” Stajić said.

A programme of activities was prepared for participants, including a group drive and social events, while a concert was scheduled for the evening.

The celebration also continued at Bijeljina’s main square, attracting numerous classic-car owners and visitors from both Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad.

CLASSIC CARS CAPTURE THE ATTENTION OF VISITORS

Visitors at Banja Dvorovi and in central Bijeljina had the opportunity to see a wide range of preserved, restored and highly attractive examples of one of the most recognisable cars in automotive history.

Over the past decade, the “Bijeljina Bug Jam” has grown into a traditional gathering of Volkswagen classic-car owners, but also into a meeting place for people united by a shared passion for oldtimers and automotive heritage.

THE BEETLE CONTINUES TO CONNECT GENERATIONS

The Volkswagen Beetle has long been much more than just a car. Its unmistakable design and the unique automotive culture that developed around the model have made it an enduring symbol of an era.

That heritage is precisely what the participants of the “Bijeljina Bug Jam” continue to preserve. Through careful maintenance, restoration and long-distance journeys in their beloved cars, they are keeping a piece of automotive history alive for new generations.

The organisers say they are proud of the jubilee edition and are already looking ahead to the next “Bijeljina Bug Jam” — another opportunity for classic-car enthusiasts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe to meet, share experiences and celebrate their passion for the legendary Volkswagen Beetle.
