Trebinje, the southernmost city in the Republic of Srpska, recorded around 25,000 registered overnight stays in September 2026, bringing the total for the first nine months of the year to approximately 190,000. The figures point to continued growth in tourism and raise expectations that the city could achieve its best annual result to date.
Nikola Kokić, spokesperson for the Trebinje Tourist
Organisation, told Radio Trebinje that this year's summer season was the most
successful since tourism records began in the city. He expects 2026 to become a
record-breaking year for Trebinje tourism.
“We can already conclude that this was by far the most
successful summer since tourism figures began to be recorded in our city. In
August alone, we registered more than 35,000 overnight stays, surpassing last
year's record. September was also exceptionally good, with around 25,000
overnight stays,” Kokić said.
He added that Trebinje recorded approximately 220,000
overnight stays throughout 2025, while the target for the end of 2026 is
250,000 registered overnight stays, which would be the best result in the
city's tourism history.
SUMMER EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES BOOST VISITOR NUMBERS
The strong results were supported by a diverse programme of
summer events and activities, concerts by well-known performers, cultural
programmes and favourable weather conditions.
Tourist numbers have also remained encouraging in October,
with organised tour groups from various parts of the world particularly
noticeable in the city.
INTERNATIONAL MARKETS BRING NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Kokić highlighted the return of Greek visitors as one of the
most encouraging developments, noting that Greece had previously been a market
from which Trebinje had lost some visitors.
“We are once again welcoming a significant number of
tourists from Greece, alongside visitors from China, Turkey, Malaysia and
Western European countries,” he said.
Trebinje is also becoming an increasingly common stop on
regional travel itineraries. Tourists visiting Dubrovnik, Mostar and other
nearby destinations are increasingly including the city in their programmes.
The Tourist Organisation intends to build on this trend and
strengthen Trebinje's position in international tourism markets.
TOURISM FAIRS AND RELIGIOUS TOURISM PROMOTION
Upcoming promotional activities will include appearances at
tourism fairs in Sarajevo, Kragujevac, Novi Sad and Thessaloniki.
Particular attention will be given to promoting religious
tourism and attracting more international visitors, as the city continues to
expand its presence in regional and international travel markets.
“TREBINJE CARD” OFFERS BENEFITS TO LOCAL RESIDENTS
Alongside attracting visitors, the Trebinje Tourist
Organisation is also working to ensure that local residents benefit directly
from tourism development through the “Trebinje Card” project.
The card allows residents to receive discounts on a range of
products and services offered by participating businesses.
“Kokić explained that residents can visit the Tourist
Information Centre, complete a simple application form and receive a
personalised card within a short period.
Around 25 businesses are currently participating in the
project, offering discounts generally ranging from 10 to 20 per cent. The
Tourist Organisation expects the number of participating businesses to grow.
The initiative aims to ensure that tourism brings tangible
benefits to the local community, rather than focusing exclusively on visitors.
Participating businesses also receive additional promotion through the Tourist
Organisation's communication channels.
Kokić encouraged residents to take advantage of the
available discounts and invited local businesses to join the project, helping
make the benefits of Trebinje's growing tourism sector accessible to more
people.
