In a setting where the sky meets stone, vine, and the elegance of the south, the Vukoje Wine Gallery in Trebinje will once again host the Salon of Žilavka on Monday, August 18th — a unique event dedicated to the most iconic wine variety of Herzegovina.
This
wine story, now in its ninth year, has grown into a regional tradition that
brings together winemakers, wine connoisseurs, and hedonists from across Bosnia
and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Serbia, and beyond. Since 2017, the Salon
has welcomed more than 10,000 visitors, wine tourists, journalists, and
professionals who recognize in Žilavka the authentic character of the
Herzegovinian terroir.
At
last year’s edition, 24 wineries presented around 100 labels of Žilavka —
ranging from fresh, young wines to complex blends where Žilavka makes up at
least 50% of the content. Among the participants were renowned producers who
infused their knowledge and character into every bottle.
But the Salon of Žilavka is more than just a wine gathering.
It is
also a gastronomic showcase, where Herzegovinian cheese and prosciutto
producers stand shoulder to shoulder with winemakers, and in recent years,
olive oil producers as well.
This
year, an even richer presentation of Herzegovinian olive growing is expected,
featuring some of the region’s most prominent oil producers.
Confirming
the importance of this event in the wine calendar of Southeastern Europe, media
representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Serbia,
Slovenia, Italy, and Austria have already announced their attendance.
The
ninth Salon of Žilavka will be held at the Vukoje Wine Gallery from 7:00 PM to
11:00 PM.
