The Women’s Association “Maja” from Kravica near Bratunac has launched an initiative to protect the geographical origin of the traditional corn variety “Osmak” and the dishes made from it.
The goal of the initiative is also to promote healthy, local, and organic food.
For decades, Dana Ješić from Bratunac has been producing the traditional “Osmak” corn. She says that growing this corn is profitable for human consumption, for livestock farming, and that it is also complementary with other crops.
The corn variety “Osmak” got its name from the eight rows of kernels on the cob, reports RTRS.
