In explaining how the list of the 44 most beautiful destinations was compiled, TimeOut stated that they asked their network of global travel writers to choose the most beautiful place they have ever visited.

"The resulting list is the final one, though by no means an exhaustive guide to the most interesting places our planet has to offer. We update this list regularly, taking care to include those that are major hits while also considering the impact of overtourism and highlighting lesser-known spots of beauty. From giant glaciers and shape-shifting beaches to ancient forests and lantern-lit cities, here are what we consider the most beautiful places on Earth – chosen by travel writers who have seen them all firsthand," they explained.

Travel writer John Bills singled out Janjske Otoke as the most beautiful place he had ever been.

"The world is beginning to discover many Bosnian wonders, but the tranquility of Janjske Otoke is on a completely different level. Located nine kilometers from Šipovo (186 kilometers west of Sarajevo), Janjske Otoke is a network of islands connected by wooden bridges, with crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, charming cottages, and several peaceful waterfalls. Nearby, the UNESCO-protected Janj Forest with its spectacular biodiversity is the cherry on top," Bills wrote for TimeOut.

He also offered a tip for TimeOut readers: "Public transportation is not the most efficient, so rent a car (or a bike) and enhance your day with an overnight stay organized by the Šipovo Tourist Office."

This location is known for its numerous waterfalls, streams, and cascades stretching across the entire area. It is also a habitat suitable for hunting and fishing, and visitors can rent rooms in local households.

Janjske Otoke is also home to the Janj Forest, a natural reserve covering 295 hectares. Of this area, 58 hectares are strictly protected, with no forest exploitation or human activities allowed. The forest consists of beech, fir, maple, elm, ash, and spruce trees.
