In the fish farm at Lake, one of the three largest in Europe, over 800 tons of premium California trout are produced annually.
Confirmation of the fish's quality came from the Faculty of
Chemistry in Banja Luka, which conducts research in the waters of the Pliva
River.
"Our trout is delivered to the market in Switzerland
within 24 hours of being caught in the nets," said Snežana Ružičić, the
mayor of Lake, to the SeeSrpska portal.
Fishermen from all over the world come to Lake for trout and grayling, as well as to relax by the blue-green river.
"We advocate for the involvement of the University of
Banja Luka and the relevant ministry through public-private partnerships to
establish a fisheries institute here. The goal is to attract young people from
around the world who are engaged in fish farming through science to come here
to prepare their scientific and professional papers," Ružičić said.
