“AVANT-GARDE, THE LANGUAGE OF MADNESS”: A DOCUMENTARY STORY ABOUT BOSILJ AND MANGELOS AT MSURS

Art lovers visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska on September 2 can look forward to a special evening dedicated to avant-garde art and one of the most intriguing artistic families from the former Yugoslavia.

As part of the closing programme for the exhibitions “Consciously Abandoning Reality: Ilija Bosilj and Sava Sekulić” and “Lazar Vujaklija: Protest Against Himself”, MSURS will screen two episodes of the RTS documentary series “Avant-Garde, the Language of Madness”, written and directed by Boris Miljković.

THE STORY OF BOSILJ AND MANGELOS

The audience will have the opportunity to watch the episodes “Ilija” and “Father and Son”, which tell the story of Ilija Bašičević Bosilj and his son Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos.

Their relationship, distinct artistic paths and creative work also reveal a broader story about the changes that shaped the art scene of post-war Yugoslavia and the development of avant-garde artistic movements.

Through the documentary format, Miljković explores an art that stepped beyond established boundaries, questioned reality and searched for new forms of expression.

AVANT-GARDE AS A LANGUAGE OF FREEDOM

The very title of the series – “Avant-Garde, the Language of Madness” – points to an artistic world in which pushing boundaries, creative freedom and breaking with conventions became ways of reflecting on the time and society in which the artists lived.

The documentary episodes complement the exhibitions currently on display at MSURS, offering audiences a deeper insight into the work of artists whose creations helped shape different currents of modern and contemporary art.

The screening will take place on Wednesday, September 2, at 8 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska.

The series is written and directed by Boris Miljković, while production is by the RTS Cultural Programme Editorial Department.
