According to the mayor, the initiative comes in response to frequent requests from children and young people he meets daily, who expressed a strong desire for such a facility within the city’s largest park.

“Responding to the wishes of a large number of young people, I am proud to say that construction works will begin in the coming days,” Stanivuković stated.

Symbolically, the conceptual design of the pumptrack was presented on St. Nicholas Day, described by the mayor as a Nikoljdansko gift to all citizens of Banjaluka.

“We believe the new pumptrack will become a favorite gathering place for sports, recreation and socializing for everyone who enjoys riding bicycles, scooters, skateboards and roller skates,” Stanivuković added.

Pumptracks were first introduced in the 1970s, primarily as smaller versions of BMX tracks designed to help riders develop and improve cycling skills. Due to long construction processes and high costs, such tracks were not widely implemented for many years.

However, since 2015, the development of modular and asphalt pumptracks has turned them into a global trend in sports infrastructure, making them more accessible and popular in cities around the world.
