After that, from 7:00 PM, a concert will take place at Krajina Square featuring regional stars Danica Crnogorčević, Aca Lukas, Miroslav Ilić, and Baja Mali Knindža. January 9th is celebrated as the Day of the Republic of Srpska because it marks the date in 1992 when it was originally established under the name Republic of the Serbian People in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Republic of Srpska was founded by Serbian delegates in the then Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina after they were outvoted on key issues regarding the survival of Yugoslavia, and members of the other two nations proceeded with secession against the will of the Serbs, who had the status of a constitutive nation.
The name Republic of the Serbian People in Bosnia and Herzegovina was used until February 28, 1992, and the proclamation of the first Constitution, when it was replaced with the Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was used until August 12, 1992, after which the current name – Republic of Srpska – was introduced.
