CLASH OF CONTINENTS AND CULTURES: BRAZILIAN WOMAN GABRIELA FINDS LOVE IN BANJA LUKA

Some love stories begin by chance, while others start after years of silence and unread messages. This is exactly the story of Brazilian woman Gabriela da Cruz Silva and Banja Luka native Milan Mirković, who turned a long digital acquaintance into marriage in Banja Luka.

The young Brazilian, who now lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, shared her journey from the first messages to marriage in an interview with “Glas Srpske”.

YEARS OF UNANSWERED MESSAGES

Gabriela da Cruz Silva reveals that Milan first contacted her back in 2018 via Facebook, and later Instagram – but she never replied.

“I would occasionally see his messages and compliments, but I never responded. To me, he was just another person on social media,” she said.

THE TURNING POINT IN JUNE 2024: A MESSAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Everything changed in June 2024 when she received a different kind of message.

“Instead of trying to get my attention, he wished for God to help me through my life struggles and bring me happiness. That message deeply moved me, and that was the first time I replied,” Gabriela explained.

That moment marked the beginning of their real communication and emotional connection.

LONG-DISTANCE LOVE BETWEEN BRAZIL AND BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

By early 2026, their relationship became serious. They spoke every day despite being separated by continents and the time difference between Brazil and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We talked about family, dreams, marriage, and children. I realized we shared the same life goals,” she said.

FROM ONLINE CONNECTION TO ENGAGEMENT

Their conversations originally started as help with learning English, but quickly evolved into something deeper.

After visiting Brazil, Milan proposed to Gabriela. Soon after, they traveled together to Paris, and then to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Gabriela met his family and, as she says, was warmly welcomed.

A NEW LIFE IN BANJA LUKA

The decision to leave Rio de Janeiro and move to Bosnia and Herzegovina was not easy, but it felt peaceful, Gabriela says.

“I love Brazil and my family, but we wanted to build a life together. Safety was an important factor,” she explained.

Moving to Banja Luka brought many positive surprises – peace, nature, and a slower, more relaxed lifestyle.

CHALLENGES AND ADAPTATION

Although she enjoys her new environment, Gabriela admits she is still learning the language and often relies on English and translation apps.

“I miss my family, Brazilian beaches, and mangoes, but every big change requires adaptation,” she said.

“BANJA LUKA RADIATES PEACE”

When describing her new home to people in Brazil, Gabriela says it is a city full of calm.

“It is a place surrounded by nature, safe and welcoming. People here seem to have time to truly live, talk, and be present for each other,” she concluded.
